The major focus of this class is the combination of new and prior knowledge to understand problems dealing with mathematical principles in rational numbers and equations, proportions and similarity, linear and nonlinear functions, two- and three-dimensional space, and data sets. This curriculum offers a more in-depth study of algebraic concepts than in years past and will require practice inside and outside of the classroom. Students who successfully complete Pre-Algebra will have a thorough knowledge of the skills and concepts necessary for the study of Algebra I in high school.
At the completion of this course, students will:
1. Know that there are numbers that are not rational, and approximate them by rational numbers.
2. Work with radicals and integer exponents.
3. Understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.
4. Analyze and solve linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
5. Define, evaluate, and compare functions.
6. Use functions to model relationships between quantities.
7. Understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry software.
8. Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem.
9. Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
10. Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data.

CHRISTIAN COOPER
Christian has been the expert of functional relationships this unit! In addition to her hard work of mastering it herself, she works with her classmates to make sure they understand too!
JASMINE PATTERSON
Jasmine is so helpful to all of the students - and teachers - in our classroom!
ALLANNA RIDDLE
Allanna asks a lot of really awesome questions that gets us talking about math!
